Clean paper and spunlace nonwoven for wipes

According to the US Nonwovens Industry Magazine, after 1999, nearly 40 kinds of wipes were introduced. In North America, the 2001 wipes market used 2.1 million ms of nonwovens, valued at $400 million, an increase of 8%. "It is expected to reach 7.7 million by 2006. In 2002, the proportion of children's wipes sold in the United States in 2002. The decrease was 5,8%, and the proportion of non-child wipes sold was 16%. The wipes included dry wipes and wet wipes. As a non-woven fabric, wet wipes used to be mostly children's products. The so-called "Babywipes", now not only limited to children, has been widely used in adult, industrial and other aspects, including children's wipes, industrial wipes, car wipes, floor wipes, life wipes Towels and so on.
Dry wipes are generally made from polyester as a raw material for easy vacuuming, so most of these nonwoven products are produced by a needle punch or spunlace process. Currently, nonwoven fabrics for wet wipes are mainly dust-free paper and spunlaced nonwoven fabrics.
The dust-free paper is a special kind of non-woven fabric which is formed by using wood pulp as a raw material, air-laid and then consolidated. According to the different bonding forms, it is divided into three types: glued paper, integrated paper and heat sealing paper.
Glued paper and heat sealing paper are applied to different products. In general, the glued paper does not dust, and is suitable for the manufacture of products that are in direct contact with the human body, such as dry/wet wipes. However, the heat sealing paper is somewhat dusty, and thus is mostly used for the production of an inner core layer of a moisture absorbing material such as a sanitary napkin core layer or the like. Some Chinese heat sealing paper manufacturers claim that the produced heat sealing paper can be done without dust, which is comparable to glued paper, but it can never be recognized by the market. Because the requirements of wet wipes are not only non-dusting, but also other requirements such as hand feeling, strength and moisture absorption performance. China's wipes products mainly meet the international market, and the consumer market of foreign wipes has been occupied by glued paper. It is not easy to use even heat-free paper that is not dusty.

In China, heat sealing paper accounts for more than 80% of the market share, mainly used in the production of sanitary napkins. According to incomplete statistics. There are about 30 dust-free paper production lines in China, of which a single heat-bonded paper production line may account for 90% of the total, and its equipment is made in China. Glued paper and integrated paper production lines are mainly imported equipment. According to the website of the world's most prestigious dust-free paper production line manufacturer M&J and Dan-web, the production line with glue bonding technology in foreign dust-free paper production lines accounts for the majority, for example, 23 production lines manufactured by M&J. In addition to the three lines of confidentiality of the bonding method, only one line is a single heat sealing paper production line, accounting for only about 5%, and the glue paper production line accounts for the vast majority (see Table 1). In fact, the chemical composition of the spunlace nonwoven fabric and the dust-free paper raw material are all cellulose fibers, and the performance is basically close. However, hot-air non-woven fabrics, hot-rolled non-woven fabrics and spunbonded nonwoven fabrics are mostly made of PP and PE raw materials, which are water-resistant polymer materials, but only an additional oil agent can make the nonwoven fabric pro- Waterborne. In contrast, the dust-free paper and the spunlace nonwoven fabric are made of cellulose fibers, have the properties of natural fibers, and are more hygroscopic and feel better than other nonwoven fabrics. Compared with dust-free paper, the two have obvious cost advantages. When the market competition is fierce, cost and price competition will be the main ones, which will lead to an increase in the proportion of dust-free paper.
If the unit quality of the nonwoven fabric is 45g/m2, the price of the spunlace cloth is 24 yuan/kg (1.08 yuan m2), and the price of the dust-free paper is 18 yuan/kg (0.81 yuan/M 2 , dust-free paper and The cost ratio of the spunlaced nonwoven fabric is 4:3.
In addition, under the same unit quality conditions, the dust-free paper is thicker than the spunlace nonwoven fabric, and consumers will be more fond of it. On the other hand, if it is the same thickness condition, it can replace the spunlace nonwoven fabric with a lower unit mass of dust-free paper, and use the dust-free paper as the wet wipe. The cost is lower and the competitive advantage is used, so the dust-free use is used. The paper price/performance advantage is quite obvious.
In China, the sales price of a pack of multi-pack wet wipes is only 0.3-OUSD, while in foreign supermarkets it can sell 2 -3USD, so the wipes industry has huge profit margins. Even if the cost of raw materials is slightly more expensive, the raw material cost of wet wipes is negligible relative to the sale price, and is acceptable to the industry. In this case, many foreign brands use spunlace.
Some other process nonwoven products are also in the market for wipes, three-dimensional stability and more like textiles. PG1 believes that due to its advanced technology, it provides three-dimensional stability and increases its performance advantages. The performance characteristics of the spunlace fabric meet the needs of consumers. These properties include multiple use, cleanliness and absorption.
DuPont emphasizes that the performance of spunlace creates a more eco-oriented product through a wide range of raw materials. They think that “spunlace is a completely different thing, because people can choose a variety of different raw materials to produce spunlace, which gives the industry more ways to adapt to products and markets.”
On the other hand, dust-free paper producers emphasize the value advantage of dust-free paper materials. In terms of cost, it is generally 15% lower than that of spunlace in Europe and America. The two materials compete while sharing a growing market share. Dust-free paper has more cost advantages, and Buckeye believes that the results of the new research and development will enable the current production of dust-free paper wipes to have the same performance as high-priced products at a low price level. New technology can make Buckeye's products softer, stronger, more stable and more absorbent.
Spunlace producers challenge the issue of cost for dust-free paper makers. “When a product has no unique features, there is always a cost issue.” Italian Tenote, the company believes
